風梭菌，似羽毛狀菌落，易在培養基表面遷移擴散。在血液瓊脂平板上有明顯溶血環，在皰肉培養基中培養，肉湯渾濁，肉渣部分被消化，微變黑，產生氣體，生成甲基硫醇(有腐敗臭味)及硫化氫。一般不發酵醣類，能液化明膠，產生硫化氫，形成吲哚，不能還原硝酸鹽為亞硝酸鹽。對蛋白質有微弱消化作用。
芽孢分佈
